Breed Characteristics

Smart, trainable and of noble bearing, the assertive and confident Cane Corso is a peerless protector. The Corsi’s lineage goes back to ancient Roman times and the breed’s name roughly translates from the Latin as “Bodyguard dog” At nearly 28” at the shoulder and often weighing more than 100 lbs, with a large head, alert expression and muscles rippling beneath their short, stiff coat, Corsi are at a glance intimidating creatures. Their imposing appearance is their first line of defense against intruders. Corsi are intelligent, loyal, eager to please, versatile and intensely loyal to their humans but are also assertive and willful.

HEALTH TESTING

Breed health and our commitment

Hip & Elbow Dysplasia

As with many large breed dogs, Cane Corsos are susceptible to hip and elbow dysplasia. While there is a genetic link to these ailments, there are environmental factors that can be causal as well. For this reason, we health test all of our dogs prior to breeding. However, we also recommend extra precautions in how you raise your puppy. Avoiding strenuous running, repetitive exercise, or jumping up or down from excessive heights in addition to keeping your dog at a healthy weight will minimize the risk of your dog developing hip and/or elbow dysplasia.

OFA / Pennhip

Testing for hip dysplasia can be done through Pennhip and/or OFA. We choose to submit radiographs to Pennhip as the scores are based off measurements directly taken from each individual dog and places them on a percentile scale in relation to other dogs in the same breed, whereas OFA scores are based on a panel of judge’s opinions upon reading the radiographs and their predicted chance of the dog developing hip dysplasia compared to a dog of any breed. We are proud to say that Lyra’s hips are within the top 5% of the breed, and Tiernan’s are in the top 10%. Our dogs have also all been DNA tested through Embark. Health Guarantee – Each puppy purchased from us is guaranteed until the age of 24 months to be free of all severe, life altering and/or crippling cases of hip and elbow dysplasia.
